'Only 29 percent have necessary social media security controls'
A snapshot of the results:
•63 percent of respondents believe employees’ use of social media in the workplace represents a serious security threat to their organization.
•52 percent of organizations experienced an increase in malware attacks as a result of employees’ use of social media.
•Only 29 percent said that their organizations have necessary social media security controls.
Random observations:
The first two bullet points don't surprise me, because we've been covering social media-based attacks on a regular basis.
That last bullet point doesn't really surprise me either. But I can't let it go without saying this:
Social networking has been a major part of doing business for a good three years now. By 2009 a lot of companies were busy working this reality into their security controls.
If, according to this survey, nearly 70 percent of respondents haven't gotten on the ball, that's shameful.
One can only hope they are starting to do something about it. Better late than never.
