Bay Bridge Web programming error means major bridge is shut for months, not really
Fri, 2009-09-04 04:02

The Bay Bridge, which connects San Francisco to Oakland it undergoing an epic engineering project this weekend, sliding a giant piece of bridge from one span to another 185 feet in the air in just under 5 days. They have to shut down this major thoroughfare for the entire Labor Day weekend to pull this off. To help drivers keep track of what's going on, they've set up a cool Web site that, until this evening, counted down the amount of time until the Bay Bridge would be shut.

At the 0 hour (8 pm this evening) the site switched to a counter that indicated how long until the bridge would be reopened. Unfortunately, the counter was off by, oh, about 263 days when it first went live.

It's fixed now. Let's hope this isn't a sign of things to come though.
