Comparing apples and pears

Operating systems like Novell Enterprise Linux comes with lot of software, and Novell releases a security advisory for every piece of software that they include with their distribution. I'm talking about thousands of third-party software programs. So if you want to compare then compare only a base set of software or the default/minimal installation. Counting the number of security advisories stupidly is not appropriate.
