Facebook joins OpenID foundation

The identirati are all abuzz about Facebook joining the OpenID board. By the way, is it just me, or does the majority of identity news these days seem to involve OpenID? Either way, the Facebook announcement does seem important, as it would (hopefully) indicate that Facebook Connect and OpenID can learn to play nice.

Of course, the usual caveats apply around big companies being providers, but not relying parties, and some in the OpenID community are openly worrying about the Big Co "silos" that are being re-resurrected. I'd call this a stepping stone on the path to something larger, though I have no idea what that larger is.

One very positive note: Facebook is holding a usability and design summit around OpenID - and MAN is that needed!

Whats Larger

We have developed and patented the larger system that allows Openid and Federation to become extensions.
