Dave Kearns recounts a recent discussion in his newsletter/column this week that's sure to attract a lot of attention in the identi-sphere.
Quoting:
"After tossing the concept around, the group decided that not only did it have no future in the enterprise, at least as currently constituted, but that there didn’t appear to be a place for it in one-on-one transactions either...OpenID won’t go away, of course, but it appears to be doomed as a potentially mainstream identity protocol."
Interestingly, the "group" discussing things was made up largely of enterprise architect types.
So, is OpenID doomed? I'm not sure that I'd go that far - yet. However, we've all seen plenty of protocols that seem to have industry support wither on the vine. At the end of the day, "use" is all that matters. Maybe the real question is: Is OpenID actually being used?
