Selling IT Security - A Great New Video to Help
Sat, 2008-02-02 22:00

The National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO) released a great new video this week to help in selling the security message. The video addresses why securing government technology is a critical concern in the digital world.  While this video is intended for state and local government CIOs, it can also help everyone in government and even the private sector to sell key messages regarding security. It is targeted at senior business managers.

The video entiled: At Risk! Securing Government in a Digital World is a product  of NASCIO’s Security and Privacy Committee and IT Security Video Work Group. NASCIO’s website said, “It is intended to help state CIOs raise awareness of the need for continuous and sufficient levels of resources dedicated to IT security in order to combat the current and emerging threats.”

Here’s a quote from John Gillispie, Iowa’s CIO and NASCIO’s current President, regarding the video: “We are pleased to offer this very timely and critically important resource for state CIOs and other state leaders to help them strengthen the business case for IT security in their states.  On behalf of NASCIO, we extend our thanks to the members of NASCIO’s Security and Privacy Committee, the IT Security Video Work Group and the ten corporate members whose sponsorship made this video a reality.  Products like this are only possible with the involvement and support of our members.”

NASCIO is able to produce these products through the help of corporate sponsors. On this project, the sponsors included: CA, Inc., CIBER, EMC, Motorola, NIC, Red Hat, SunGard Availability Services, Symantec, Unisys, and Verizon Business Security Solutions powered by Cybertrust.

In our new video-rich world where YouTube reruns are played regarding Presidential debates, this new media is very helpful to CSOs to get our messages out with pictures. We all need help, and NASCIO does a great job with all their video products. (They have another great video on diaster recovery at their website.)

Truth in advertising – yes, I did help with this project and a short clip of yours truly is in the video, but the credit for this great product goes to Mary Gay Witmer and Doug Robinson at NASCIO headquarters.
