I've stayed away from this one for a while to see if the response from TJX would improve. It has not and now they have come out and said that the breach was much worse than they originally thought. For the media, this is the gift that keeps on giving. Just when it began to quiet down, they come out with more bad news. When I first addressed their response I certainly hoped that it would get no worse. I was wrong.
I heard a communications professor describe it this way: TJX is running away from confronting the problem, while JetBlue (following their scheduling disaster last week) is running towards confronting the problem. TJX needs to get some help on this fast.
I'm looking forward to reading the case study that comes out of this mess.
