Daniel J. Lohrmann is Michigan's Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Director, Infrastructure Services Administration within the Michigan Department of Information Technology (MDIT). He oversees approximately 800 technology staff and contractors administering functions such as technical architecture, project management, data centers operations, systems integration, customer service (call) centers support, PC & server administration, office automation, and field services support.

Prior to January 2009, Dan served as the State of Michigan's first Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Appointed in May 2002, he directed Michigan's award-winning Office of Enterprise Security for almost seven years. Dan was named CSO of the Year by SC Magazine and Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine in 2008.

From 2004-2009, Dan also served as an executive board member of the Multi-State Information Sharing & Analysis Center (MS-ISAC), which coordinates cybersecurity actions among the 50 states, and he was founder of the Michigan State and Local Government ISAC in 2007. Lohrmann also served on several state and federal security councils and working groups.

He currently represents the National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO) on the IT and Communications Government Coordinating Council led by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Lohrmann is also the Chairman of the Board for 2008-2009 and past President (2006-2007) of the Michigan InfraGard Member's Alliance (IMA).

Prior to becoming Michigan's CISO, Lohrmann served as the Senior Technology Executive for e-Michigan, where he published an award-winning academic paper entitled: The Michigan.gov Story - Reinventing State Government Online. He also served as Director of Information Technology and CIO for the Michigan Department of Management & Budget in the late 1990s.

Dan has over 24 years of experience in the computer industry, beginning his career with the National Security Agency (NSA). Dan worked for three years in England as a Senior Network Engineer for Lockheed Martin (formerly Loral Aerospace) and for four years as a Technical Director for ManTech International in a US/UK military facility.

He is a distinguished guest lecturer for Norwich University in the field of Information Assurance. Dan has been a keynote speaker at IT events around the world, and he has presented at RSA, GovTech South Africa, numerous SecureWorld and ITEC conferences in addition to online webinars and podcasts. He has been featured in numerous daily newspapers, radio programs and magazines. He's published articles on security, technology management, cross-boundary integration, and building e-government applications, cloud computing, virtualization and securing portals.

He holds a Masters Degree in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and a Bachelors Degree in CS from Valparaiso University in Indiana.

Under Dan's leadership, the Michigan Security Team won the National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO) Award for Security and Privacy in 2003, 2004, and tied for first in 2007. Michigan was a NASCIO runner-up in 2006 and 2008.
