Which Desktop OS Had the Most Vulns in Q1 2008?

Topic(s):

If you had to guess which of these three OSes had the most security vulnerability fixes in Q1, which would it be?

  • Windows Vista
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Desktop
  • Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Well, to see the full details, you can download the report at Q1 2008 - Client OS Vulnerability Scorecard, but let's hit the highlights here, breaking down all of the OSes by NVD severity ratings:

For January through March of 2008, Mac OS X users experienced the highest number of vulnerabilities as well as the highest number of High severity vulnerabilities while Windows Vista users experienced the fewest and the fewest High severity vulnerabilities.

I wish you would compare useful stats, vulnerabilities fixed isn't a useful stat at all, since one, it relies on the amount released, completely independent of vulnerabilities known and not fixed, two, actually requires users to apply the fixes (although mostly automated, you can't just assume everyone is patched). What I want to hear about is which OS just survived a major attack at a hacker convention, the very people that you should be concerned with because they are the ones trying to attack your vulnerabilities.

Send me a link to your post to my email when you do that, I'm guessing it's gonna be awhile.
